Lake Fenton Fagus Site

The final day on the improvements to the track at the Fagus sites at Lake Fenton involved adding rocks and carting gravel. A short section of track at a wet area had large rocks placed, using a flying fox to make it easier. Most effort went into putting gravel on spots that were rough and uneven to walk over.
A modified lightweight wheelbarrow was used for part of the way, although it had to be lifted over some sections and was only able to be wheeled on boardwalk and very even ground. It looked hard work, but the vote was that it was slightly easier than carrying a bucket.

Left over gravel was moved to a location behind the plaque for future use.
The project was made possible from a grant given by the Foundation of National Parks & Wildlife. It enabled the FOMF to have track designer and constructor John Hughes on the project, which was key to achieving a successful outcome.
It is now easier for people to walk along these 370 metres of track and better enjoy the very attractive vegetation, including groves of Fagus, and scenery.
