Lake Nicholls

Saturday 21 May 2022

Last time the hut at Lake Nicholls was visited the door was jamming and needed shaving, but when we got there this time some of the timber seemed to have been broken and the door was opening without difficulty. It did mean that more draft would come under, but at least we were able to plug some of the other gaps at floor level. Visitors had forced newspaper into these gaps, and we replaced what was an ugly sight with timber. Some minor trimming of the track near the lake was also carried out.

Some of the signs on the track and nearby locations had black mould on them and were cleaned. It seems advisable to make a regular follow up clean to avoid this growth getting a foothold.

Another small job was to add a few long bugle screws to a couple of loose planks on Wombat Moor, but only one could be detected on this occasion. The ice in the gaps may have disguised the other one.

It was a brilliant calm and sunny autumn day and quite warm sitting in the sun above Lake Nicholls for lunch.
