Fagus Walk

Saturday 19 March 2022

It was decided that it would be a good idea to move some gravel whilst it was still in a dry state. The aim was to add it to parts of the Fagus Walk track where protruding tree and shrub roots made slipping on them a possibility. Quite a few of these spots were covered with the gravel. To break up the work, we cut the driftwood that had washed over the Lake Fenton dam wall, to lessen the risk of it piling up in flood conditions and causing possible damage to the bridge on the track. While all this was going on two members trimmed the track from the carpark to the road crossing. The sawn timber was carried and stacked near the nearby monument and hopefully will be put to good use by PWS.

After lunch a tree over the Old Pack Track was cut by Greg, but it proved a bit of a tougher assignment than first thought. Nevertheless a slice was cut through and moved to one side, allowing easier passage for walkers. At some stage we hope Park staff will finish the job of cutting through the thicker remaining part.

Exposed root likely to be slippery in damp conditions
