Dobson to Twilight Track Track
Saturday 16 March 2013
The weather forecast was not ideal with showers predicted. Despite this we decided to have the working bee. Initially it was reasonable with just a touch of drizzle, which soon stopped and raincoats could be removed. However at about 11:45 am it began to rain and half the party headed for Twilight Tarn hut where we had lunch. It is a bit of a walk to the hut and the others remained at the work site. The rain did stop and conditions were not bad for the remainder of the time.
One particular feature of the day was the birds, particularly Crescent Honeyeaters which were constantly calling no matter what part of the track we were on. It would seem they numbered in tens of thousands, including a lot of juveniles. Banksia flowers were also prolific even through lots of them had been plucked off by the many Black Cockatoos in the area. There was also a large flock of Currawongs.
Duck Boards were carried to the start of the Lake Seal track and timber was brought up from Lake Webster as framing for the additional duck boards. Not sure how the two Gregs and John managed to each carry two at a time over that distance. Some additional wire was added to two slippery boardwalks near Lake Webster. Drains on the section from Lake Webster towards Twilight Tarn were cleared and about 900 metres of track cleared back. All in all the results achieved were quite impressive. Most of the track between Webster and Twilight has now been cleared.
