Tarn Shelf Gravel Project January 2024
Saturday 20 January 2024
In late 2023, the Parks and
Wildlife Service had 16 bags of gravel, which were paid for by a donation to the Friends of Mount
Field, flown to the Tarn Shelf Track for hardening and better defining the
track to reduce walkers' impacts. Volunteers from the Friends spread the
gravel from 7 1/2 bags. We were able to achieve this with some of our long time members the able assistance of two new younger volunteers.
The weather was mostly fine, apart from a few spots of rain during lunch break, that had us wondering if this spelt a retreat. Fortunately it cleared quickly and work resumed.
More on the project and other work at Tarn Shelf is at this link.
